Why I no longer treat men, in my perceptive.
I miss it.
Because it should be available for EVERYONE.
So, I must say without dancing around the subject that I'm talking about men who are seeking treatment and that's all.
I wish I didn't have to plaster this numerous times on so many occasions for over 6 years but I know people have experienced uncomfortable situations with some shady characters who pose as any regular client/patient and so it's necessary to say. It is a total shame as many therapist are now looking to seek and make that choice to be a female only therapist service to feel safer.
For me, it's gotten to the point of no return in recent weeks where I can no longer help male clients in need for professional treatment which has left me no choice.
So no judgement, but a clear statement with open understanding and some rambling thoughts.
Therefore, I'm sharing how important I feel it is that men are able to access therapies like massage because I'm very passionate in what I do on a daily. In a society that can still very much view vulnerability as weakness and has what feels like an undercurrent of hatred that's continuing to grow in strength but I have hope we can change this. I'm very sorry for all the lovely men who have reached out to me in times when they have felt they need fixing and support and I wonder how things would be if they weren't those who try to bring you down in uncomfortable ways where my calling or duty is to fix, heal and get back into recovery.
But my future message is that I often wonder about what we could do to make therapists feel safer and more comfortable and promote services for EVERYONE that attract genuine enquiry and attract less creeps. I hope that day comes.
That process may be a long winding road that requires early intervention, organisations or schools to promote the benefits of non-sexualised touch and highlighting massage as a therapy and not a seedy practice.
Well I guess there is hope, I wonder if this topic becomes a hot topic, I hope we don't get to hear any horrific situations in MSN... just saying.
